THE computer room -                  Dominica talks to Electrician

We need magic to transport our 20 Pentium II computers to the kids who are drawing computers. They are doing their part of visualizing them in the room so they can learn.  We are contacting American Airlines. The urgency also turns to $1,100 for an inverter so there is steady electricity!  Now we can't start that computer lab without an inverter to have electricity at all time. Cost $1100. Look at a proposal we received

All of the costs of the computer lab, inverter, installation is contained in the attached proposal.  Please read it carefully as I took a lot of time to prepare it.
You are really purchasing two items.  One is an inverter, which is much different that a power surge.  An inverter provides the back up power for when the power fails and also acts as power regulator which protects the computers.  We sell only new Xantrax's Trace inverters with two year warranties.  These are the best inverters in the world and we have the best prices in the DR.  Do not use a cheap inverter as these will damage your batteries which cost $65 each, and you need four of these.  A cheap inverter can also damage the computers.  It is important that you think about the inverter as a improvement for the school that will help keep fans running during a black out and also allows for the administration computers to run as well.  Inverters are expensive, you will need between $800 and $900 for one and you will have to spend $260 on batteries.  But the inverter should last ten to twenty years, maybe even longer.  Much longer than the computers.  Think long term, it is important you stabilize the electrical situation at the school before you install a computer lab.  You can always do the computers later.

School begins  and  ends by singing

If you have donated computers in the United States that is great.  Make sure that they are Pentium II 350 Mghz computers or better, but you should really only send Pentium III computers.  Send only computers as a monitor will cost about $75 to ship; we sell them for as little at $50, while we charge between $160 and 190 for our Pentium II computers.  They are in very good shape and can even run windows XP.

Dominica had a wish 5 years ago to take teenagers off the street and teach them computer skills.

We planned in our heads, then visualized with PASSION! The room is practically ready and 18 computers will soon manifest. We both know that!

CONGRATULATION, WE RAISED $4,200 (cash and in-kind) for the kids Christmas 03 and construction - Bravo.

DOMINICA's LATEST NEEDS

1.  The computer room is finally built!  We now urgently need 18 or 20  Computers and monitors to start the computer class, or OLD LAPTOPS  (easier to carry) --Penthium II and higher. The room is practically ready, we have a volunteer teacher and room for 18 students, but only three decent computers!

2. Shoes, bathing suits, clothes, socks, underwear, etc. for 3 to 15 years old. I brought 141 lbs to Dominica and still did not have one present for each, except a beanie bunny! OLD CD please. Stephanie needs some flutes for the kids and a music book to teach them.

3.  Money for food and/or to SPONSOR or co-sponsor a child (from $35 to $100/month -- education included). See the case of Chantal.*

4. $30,000 for 5 classes upstairs, with staircases etc., so Dominica can keep the kids longer -- grade 7 & 8 = high school level! And with the devaluation of the pesos, everything costs more now. A bag of cement is $6 and rises constantly!
